In CDT we have awesome opportunity to basically do whatever we want. (Sensibly) The fact was that in all other classes a teacher would tell us what to do, but, in this case we were the ones telling our selves what to do. Although this gave us a great opportunity, it came at a small price, we had to collect all the resources ourselves. This included research and programs.
My Project
For my project, I am very interested in designing my very skatepark and learn to key elements that are needed for it to be enjoyable for skating, and rollerblading. I have been to many skateparks myself, so i would like to include some of the best from where I've been.
But Why?
The reason I have chosen this project is because I have been to many skateparks but I've always thought "What if a box was there or what if a quarter-pipe was there". There always seems to be something missing, and I think I could fill all those gaps in my ultimate skatepark. I think I could make a combination of beginner, intermediate and advanced areas, which would be easy to navigate and fun to ride.
Questions?
Is there a better program thank google sketch up for my project? I think Google SketchUp is the best program to use. We have version 7 at school so if you do any work at home remember to save it as a previous version of SketchUp.
An idea: Can you take any picture of any skateparks/ramps that you have been to (or get some pictures off the internet) and write about how you would improve them?
Week 1
My first week in the workshop, a good start. I have been designing every ramp I am going to use in my park. It is going to be split into a beginner, intermediate and advanced sections consisting of a variety of different ramps. So far so good.
Week 2
In class today I started on designing the layout of my beginner section of my skatepark, this consists of many mellow quarter and half pipes and small boxes. One of the skills I used was "Helping Others" when I helped Max start the sawing of his skateboard and I also did "Planning" when I was doing the layout design. Next week I aim to finish the beginner section and make a start on the intermediate section of my park which will be a bit more challenging to make, but I'm up for it.
Week 3
Today I decided I would move away from the depths of the beginner section for a bit and started to focus on the huge run in my intermediate section with the spine in the middle. I enjoyed colouring my ramps and decided I should use a green trim on the sides of the ramps which was quite a cool feature. I am very happy with what I'm doing and have done so far and think I have used some key skills and also learned some key skills too.
